The Kankakee Daily Journal has named OUTRAGE as one of the First Amendment Heroes in the Kankakee area as part of Sunshine Week, Your Right To Know.
The Daily Journal as part of the American Society of Newspaper Editors is participating in Sunshine Week which is an effort to raise awareness about government secrecy and the public's right to access information.
The Daily Journal also named First Amendment Failures in the Kankakee area. They included the Kankakee School board for not allowing free speech by district teachers at their board meetings. St. George School district for kicking out a Journal reporter from one of their meetings. Momence City Council for not allowing public comment at their meetings. City of Kankakee for passing "thought police" restrictions on city council members and Comcast Cable for not providing coverage of local government meetings through public access channels.
OUTRAGE thanks The Daily Journal. Not only for being named one of the heroes but also for The Daily Journal's front and center stand on open government. Open government is what OUTRAGE is all about!
