June 9, 2009

After reading about the June 8. 2009 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court which  ruled for the first time that excessive campaign contributions to a judge creates an unconstitutional threat to a fair trial, a decision that could have a nationwide impact on whether judges must recuse themselves in cases involving their political benefactors, we decided to research if anyone who stands to benefit from the proposed garbage dump had donated to any of the three Appellate Court judges who ruled in favor of the second dump application.  Here is what we found.  ( Note:  For details on the history of how this proposed garbage dump gained life through a second application with the election of former governor Blagojevich to his first term,  click here.)

Garbage dump developer Fred Barbara  donated $1000 to  Appellate Court Judge William E. Holdridge's campaign fund.  This is one of the three Appellate Court judges who ruled in favor of the Fred Barbara garbage dump before being issued a stern Illinois Supreme Court Supervisory order to vacate their decision and to go back and do the job right or the Illinois Supreme Court will appoint three other judges who will.

City of Kankakee Attorney Bohlen also donated to the Judge Holdridge campaign fund.

See details below.
