The Illinois Supreme Court has denied Fred Barbara and Tom Volini's request to appeal the 3rd District Appellate Court rulings against their proposed Chicago regional landfill with the City of Kankakee.

On behalf of OUTRAGE, I wish to thank the Kankakee County Board members who resisted a great deal of political pressure from the City of Kankakee, local union bosses and the sheriff to withdraw from the legal battle.
I also want to thank the POWER board and supporters, St. Rose Peace and Social Justice Committee, Reverend Copland and members of Morning Star Church, attorney Ed Vogt, Larry O’Connor, Ed Mullady, Ron Thompson and many others who got involved in this dump battle over the last 8 years. I must also include our missed deceased friend Keith Runyon.
With the construction of a garbage-to-ethanol plant in Schneider, Indiana about 30 miles away, it is likely our two garbage transfer stations will be taking our garbage to this plant in the next 24 months making the idea we need a dump a myth. This plant will charge half what a dump charges to take a ton of garbage. Indiana officials have stated, Chicago, Allied and Waste management have indicated they want to bring garbage to this plant for the huge cost savings.
Garbage is too valuable as an energy source to pile into mountains. As one of our local commercial developers recently stated, we need to focus on the innovative. Nothing is more innovative then the high tech garbage-to-energy technologies that are being built around the country. They are far cleaner; create hundreds of jobs and more revenue for local government then any garbage dump.
