OUTRAGE PRODUCES CHECKLIST FOR CITIZENS TO MONITOR THEIR LOCAL GOVERNMENT’S ACTIONS.

The Illinois Open Meetings Act was written to force local governments to conduct the public’s business in the open.

Copies of the Open Meetings Act and its companion,  The Illinois Freedom of Information Act may be acquired through the Illinois Office of the State Attorney General: 100 W. Randolph Ste. 12,  Chicago, Illinois,  60601,  Phone 312- 814 2503

You may print a copy of the Checklist and take it to a public meeting to see it your government are conducting themselves in a compliant manner.   The same Open Meetings Act terms, tenets and conditions apply to all units of local government including school districts, park districts, library districts, city/town/ or village governments,/ county and  township governments.  It also applies to all committees and subcommittees of such governments.

If you review the checklist before going to a meeting, you will in all likelihood discover that your government is not in compliance in several ways.  You will make them nervous when you tell them you want them to start complying with the laws of the State of Illinois.
