The Kankakee County Board with a Republican majority is on a major spending spree. They have handed out huge salary increases. Some as high as 79% over 4 years. The increases handed out to County deputies alone will cost Kankakee County taxpayers an estimated $1,000,000 annually! Now at the May County Board meeting they gave hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary increases to the Sheriff and several other administrators and elected officials. The Sheriff will be brought up to $100,000 a year and as you recall he got the County board to give him a pension of around 80% when he retires. He also gets a free car to take home for personal use. Don't forget the Cadillac health insurance he and all the elected officials and administrators have.
As OUTRAGE has stated many times, the Kankakee County Republicans are RINO's Republicans In Name Only. They follow their mentor George Ryan. They believe in big government , bloated spending and maximum taxation. The bigger the government, the more cronies they have to grow their power base. Remember when they tried three times to pass a referendum to raise the sales tax. They told the voters the County was broke and the world would come to an end if the voters did not pass the sales tax increase. Fortunately OUTRAGE and the citizens in the community saw through those lies and were able to beat them all three times. Even without the sales tax increase they have increased the County's budget by 80% over the last five years!
This is what happens when you don't have a real two party system here. No real competition at election time. No real debate on issues. Just a good old boy network! You see regardless what party label a county board member calls herself or himself, the agreement is you will have no sanction competition at election time if you vote for what Chairman Kruse and the Sheriff wants. This is why only a few consistent independent thinkers on the board have candidates running against them. If citizens do come forward to run against the RINO's, they have to run as Democrats to get on the ballot but it will be with little or no backing from the Democratic party because area unions and local Democratic power brokers all support the RINO's because they spend and spend and will not run anybody against them as long as they do as they are told.
Remember what happened to Nicky Yates who ran as a Democrat against the City of Kankakee Republican Mayor Green? The local Democratic party would not back Mr. Yates because the agreement with the Unions and the Democratic power brokers was that Republican Mayor Green would not have any opposition to his reelection.
One can only hope the day will come when the RINO's and their crony network will get theirs as George Ryan is about to get his this August.
