November 18, 2007
A legal notice published in Sunday's November 18 Daily Journal states that a case has been commenced in the Court against a Sam T. Nicholos for foreclosurer by Wachovia Equity Servicing, LLC.
The property listed is 906 West Walnut Street Kankakee which,
according to the phone book, is listed as having the same phone number as the
County lists on its web site as the phone number of County Board member Sam T.
Nicholos who is also the Vice-Chairman of the kankakee County Republican party.
Nicholos and his party' record of spending into the red are consistent. The
County has ran budget deficits in 2006 and 2007 which can be traced to the
County Board yielding to the Sheriff's demands to build the largest jail in
Illinois for a County our size including the Sheriff's demands for two
144 bed additions to the new jail and the Sheriff's demand for a $5,000,000
Sheriff's office center. The County ran out of money to finish the second 144
bed wing. The second 144 bed wing is a dirt floor shell that has to be heated
in the winter to keep from deteriorating.
The Daily Journal mentioned Nicholos as a possible candidate for mayor of the
City of Kankakee. It is true he supported the City's proposed garbage dump
as demonstrated by his vote of yes to the motion to withdraw the County's
Illinois Supreme Court case against the City's dump proposal. Thankfully
most County Board members voted No and the case was allowed to proceed with the
County winning. Nicholos also opposes the establishment of a
Kankakee
County Public Access Channel on Comcast.
One has to wonder if this is the kind of spending and voting record the City of Kankakee
needs for leadership with unfunded police and firefighter pension fund
liabilities of $37,244,593.00 as reported by the City's Comprehensive Annual
Financial Report for the fiscal year ended April 30, 2007.
