Union Leaders Push To Have The Kankakee County Board Withdraw Their Supreme Court Case Against The First Application For The Proposed Barbara/Volini/City of Kankakee Chicago Regional Garbage Dump Fails.

 

A second attempt to get the County of Kankakee to withdraw their legal case at the Illinois Supreme Court against the first application for the Barbara/Volini/City of Kankakee Chicago regional garbage dump proposal failed this morning at a special County Board meeting.  The vote was 15 against withdrawing, 8 for withdrawing and 5 absent.
 
This latest push to drop the legal case against the Volini dump came from  Mike Smith president of the Kankakee Federation of Labor AFL-CIO and Steven Magruder  president of the Kankakee & Iroquois Building & Construction Trade Council through written letters to all board members.
 
It is very important to Barbara/Volini and Mayor Green to get this legal case dropped now that they have lost the other case, regarding the second application, in the Appellate Court which was brought by POWER.  They know full well if this case is allowed to go forward, there is a good chance they will loose again.

Up Date:  The County did win this case and as a result the first application is dead.  As of April, 2008,  the second application is alive because the Appellate Court reversed their 2006 decision against the second application but the reversal is being appealed to the Illinois Supreme Court by both POWER and the Kankakee County board.
