Good News! Union Leaders Push To Have County Board Withdraw Their Supreme Court Case Against The Proposed Volini/City of Kankakee Chicago Regional Garbage Dump Fails.

A second attempt to get the County of Kankakee to withdraw their legal case at the Illinois Supreme Court against the Volini/City of Kankakee Chicago regional garbage dump proposal failed this morning at a special County Board meeting.  The vote was 15 against withdrawing, 8 for withdrawing and 5 absent.

This latest push to drop the legal case against the Volini dump came from  Mike Smith president of the Kankakee Federation of Labor AFL-CIO and Steven Magruder  president of the Kankakee & Iroquois Building & Construction Trade Council through written letters to all board members.

It is very important to Volini and Mayor Green to get this legal case dropped now that they have lost the other case in the Appellate Court which was brought by POWER.  They know full well that if this case is allowed to go forward, there is a good chance they will loose again.

It is possible they will try again in the next month or two.  You never know what they will try next.

They took the vote before they seated the new board members.

These eight County Board members voted Yes  to withdrawing the legal case at the Illinois Supreme Court against the proposed Volini/City of Kankakee Chicago regional garbage dump.

Leo Whitten  Bradley  929-0792

Elmer Wilson, Kankakee 935-2059 (He should have not voted on this issue as he has a conflict of interest since he is on the City of Kankakee planning commission.)

Kelly McLaren, Bradley 932-3346

Larry Gibbs, Pembroke   (This was his last act as a board member as he was voted out.)

Sam Nicholos, Kankakee 937-9311

Karen Campbell, Kankakee (She should have not voted on this as she has a conflict of interest because she is a employee of the City of Kankakee.  She is likely to see her salary and benefits increase if the City gets this dump.)  932-1803

Chad Kalecki, St Ann 427-6127

Tim Gentry, Kankakee (This was his last act as a County Board member as he was voted out.)

Please call and thank those who voted NO to withdrawing the legal case against the dump.

You may want to call the ones who voted Yes to withdrawing the legal case and ask them why they tried to sell out the community's water supply i.e. the river and deep aquifer.
